Australian Visas - Based on your Skills and Qualifications
Australia has a Skilled Workers shortage. Australian General Skilled Migration Scheme (GSMS) allows individuals with certain skills and work experience the opportunity to qualify for one of the Skilled visas to immigrate to Australia.
There are a number of visa options in the skills category. All applicants in the skills category must be under a certain age and have a high level of English and significant recent work experience. At the present time the main categories for Australia Skilled Immigration (from outside Australia) are:
Australia Skilled - Independent Visa (Subclass 175)
Eligibility for this category of visa, you must be highly skilled and have post-secondary qualifications, nominate an occupation on the skilled occupation list, obtain a successful assessment from the relevant Australian assessing authority for that occupation and have recent work experience. The present passmark is 65 points.
Skilled - Australian Sponsored Visa (Subclass 176)
Eligibility for this category of visa, you must be highly skilled and have post-secondary qualifications (e.g. degree or trade certificate), nominate an occupation on the skilled occupation list, obtain a successful assessment from the relevant Australian assessing authority for that occupation and have recent work experience. Applicants must be either sponsored by an eligible relative living in Australia or nominated by a participating State or Territory government.
Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 475)
This is a three (3) year temporary (provisional) visa for people who are prepared to live in Regional Australia. Applicants must be either sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated area or nominated by a participating state/territory government of Australia. After meeting certain citeria of living and working in Australia then applicants may apply for permanent residence.
Skilled – Recognised Graduate (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 476)
An 18 month temporary visa for graduates of certain overseas universities and institutions who have skills in demand in Australia. There visa is not points tested.
