Offshore Parent Visas
The Australian offshore Parent Visas are two types of visas that allow aged parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to live in Australia. These visas are the Parent Visa (subclass 103) and the Contributory Parent Visa (subclass 143).
The Parent Visa (subclass 103) is a non-contributory visa and has a longer processing time than the Contributory Parent Visa (subclass 143). To be eligible for the Parent Visa, the parent(s) must be sponsored by their child who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. The parent(s) must also meet certain age requirements, health and character requirements, and have an assurance of support.
Once the Parent Visa (subclass 103) is granted, the parent(s) can live in Australia permanently with their child. They will be allowed to work and study in Australia and can also travel in and out of the country as needed.
The Contributory Parent Visa (subclass 143) is a more expensive option but has a faster processing time. To be eligible for the Contributory Parent Visa, the parent(s) must meet the same eligibility requirements as for the Parent Visa (subclass 103), but must also make a significant contribution to the cost of their healthcare and welfare in Australia.
Once the Contributory Parent Visa (subclass 143) is granted, the parent(s) can live in Australia permanently with their child. They will be allowed to work and study in Australia and can also travel in and out of the country as needed.
In addition to the Parent Visa (subclass 103) and the Contributory Parent Visa (subclass 143), there is also a temporary Contributory Parent Visa (subclass 173) which allows the parent(s) to live in Australia for up to two years while their permanent Contributory Parent Visa (subclass 143) application is being processed.
Overall, the Australian Aged Parent Visas provide a pathway for aged parents of Australian citizens or permanent residents to live and work in Australia with their children. The process can be complex and time-consuming, so it is important to seek professional advice and assistance when applying for these visas.
